The answer cannot be a plain yes or a no! Actually, a
different shade can be attributed to the tone of the answer. Web Design has
been an integral and reputed profession, since the time the world wide web has
come into being. While the earlier version was simpler and did not need much of
learning (it was only about a few tags in HTML), times have changed with newer,
more sophisticated versions coming in! The latest HTML 5 and CSS 3 have done a
lot of favored magic.
It is no more about deciding on the layout of the text on a
static website! Almost every major website, now has a CMS managing its
back-end. Now, the complexity of this back-end decides on the features that are
functional on the basic front-end. With these developments coming in, the
designer no more has an extremely active participation in the textual part. The
role, however has increased in the look and feel of the front-end. In fact,
that is the reason web designers get hired majorly! Better known as Web User
Interface, this new arm of a normal website has increased demand for more
qualified and more creative designers.
Another important intruder here, would be WordPress. Since
WordPress has come up with its unique concept of free customizable themes, people
seem to have got addicted towards utilizing the free ones, tweaking them just a
little bit. But that is definitely not what bigger businesses would go for!
Free themes steal out the possibility of standing singular in the web design
world. Hundred more people could have used the theme that you are using! High
profile businesses, for that matter, even the small scale ones also prefer to
use customized themes. And it is the designers who do this kind of
customization.
Besides, there are places or more appropriately speaking,
platforms like 'ThemeForest' that trade in already crafted themes. Many
businesses choose to buy themes from these platforms. The matter here is that
while free themes can be used by millions, thousands would prefer to buy themes
from these platforms. In any case, the chances of duplication would still stay,
through the frequency would decrease. Again, the magic of theme customization
works here! Web Designers, back to work!
Better yet, with these paid themes coming into picture, there
has risen up a competition that can never be fed enough. New levels of quality
have been built up on these platforms. In order to enter the tussle, a designer
has to give probably better than what he thought was his best!
It would be a wrong way to
answer the main question if we said that the market of web designers has
decreased. Of course, with new complex softwares that have made designing, a
job of select, drag and drop; the hunting of mediocre talent in place of
designers has stopped! Softwares do much of the thing. However, there exists no
software that can do the fine-tuning that a designer's brush can do. It is no
more about just being a designer, it is about being a witful, imaginative and
creative designer, ready to take up challenges of satiating the eyes of the
ever-hungry web audience. The web designer's market has not shrunk, it has just
become more choosy and more competitive.
Interesting post! I would say that it all depends on the work. There might be some designers who are not up to the mark and some who can do wonders. Thankfully, I came across Child Care Website Design service. They are great at their work and also offers online marketing. It was a good package for my business and bought a lot of profit to my business.
